Winter Workshop: Winter Tree and Shrub Identification – RESCHEDULED
RESCHEDULED: Due to weather, this workshop has been rescheduled for Friday, February 7, 2014 – same time and place!
Identifying Trees and shrubs in the winter months can be challenging in the absence of foliage fruits and flowers. Join Paul Wieczoreck of Champlain Valley Landscaping, John Padua of Cobble Creek Nursery, and V.J. Comai of the South Forty Nursery as they walk the collections and woodlands surrounding the UVM Hort. Farm sharing tips on how to identify trees and shrub using twigs, buds and bark characteristics. Using an Identification key can be a helpful tool, if you have one bring it along. Dress for the weather. Some suggestions; snowshoes or mud boots, a notebook, binoculars, and a hand lens.

Travel 1.5 miles south from the intersection of Interstate I-189 and Shelburne Road (U.S. Route 7). Turn left at the traffic light onto Green Mountain Drive after the state highway sign indicating the UVM HORT. FARM. Travel .3 miles on Green Mountain Drive and turn right onto the Horticultural Research Center access road.
Directions from Shelburne and the south:
Travel 3.5 miles north from the intersection in the center of Shelburne Village on U.S. Route 7. Turn right at the traffic light onto Green Mountain Drive after the state highway sign indicating the UVM HORT. FARM. Travel .3 miles on Green Mountain Drive and turn right onto the Horticultural Research Center access road.
