The awards program is open to all Green Works members who are current in their dues. Landscape architects, landscape designers, landscape contractors, and professional gardeners/horticulturists are encourage to apply. The following are the project categories:
Small Scale Residential: Design or Build
This category is for projects that focus on a section of a residential property. Submissions might include a front entry, a backyard entertainment area, a foundation planting, or any project that works with part of a property. While the main emphasis is on a landscaped section, the surrounding area should be included in photos and plan to show it’s context within the greater landscape.
Large Scale Residential: Design, Build, or Management
This category is for full property projects. Submissions will include master plans and details for a fully developed property. Projects developed in stages are eligible providing they have been fully completed.
Commercial: Design, Build, or Management
This category includes any landscape project that is not a single family residence or a business located in a single family residence. This category is for full or partial property projects. Submissions will include landscape plans and details. Projects developed in stages are eligible providing they have been fully completed.
Special Project
This category applies to projects that do not fit in the other categories. Submissions can include irrigation, pond building, strictly hardscaping projects, tree work, rainwater gardens, green roofs, environmental art, or other unique landscape challenges or features. Be sure to demonstrate how these unique projects sit within the context of their surroundings.

JUDGING
A panel of industry professionals that includes landscape designers, nursery workers, and horticultural educators is assembled to judge the entries.
The judging process is blind: the identity of your business and the client is not revealed to the judges. All reference to your business name and client name will not appear on your entry during the review process.
Projects are judged on many factors including the degree of difficulty, aesthetic quality, proper horticultural practices, craftsmanship, environmental sustainability and the creative use of resources. Thus, judges consider the implementation of the design, choice of plants and hardscaping materials, the design’s integration into its surroundings and how it fits the client’s budget and goals.
Submissions are judged on their own merits: they are reviewed and judged by their landscape plan, description, photos and photo descriptions.
AWARDS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
The Judging Committee will review all submissions and notify the award winners by January 17, 2012. The winners will be announced to the national, state, and local media after winners are notified. A Grand Honor (First Place) and Exceeds Excellence (Second Place) Award will be given in each subcategory of each category. Some categories will not be awarded if the judges determine there is no winning entry for that category.
Award winners will be honored at the subsequent Green Works Winter Meetings & Trade Show and will be asked to give a 10 minute presentation of their project. Display boards of the their projects will be on view at the Green Works winter and summer meetings. Additionally, award winners will be featured in The Dirt, our quarterly newsletter, on the Green Works website, in media press releases, and at the Vermont Flower Show in 2013,.
