What is On The Border Morris? Morris dancing is an old English country dance tradition, dating back to, at least, the 1400s. Dances were done by men dressed in white, with colored baldricks and ribbons, wearing leather pads with bells on their legs. Morris dancing is generally associated with the countryside, and celebrating spring and harvests, with many villages having their own Morris team and individual dance styles. Most dances involve waving white handkerchiefs or clashing long or short sticks. The stick dances may represent mock fighting with swords, quarterstaves, or singlesticks.
