Horsford Gardens and Nursery: Yard & Equipment Manager 2018

Horsford Gardens and Nursery seeks a neat and tidy person to work in our yard. Job entails daily maintenance of equipment, tidying up of our grounds, and loading customers and landscapers with mulch, compost, topsoil, and several stone products. Experience with equipment a must. Hard-working and a pleasant personality desired. Self-motivation and the ability to work independently are key. Anticipated work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8 AM – 4:30 PM, starting in April. Full-time, seasonal, long-term.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Using equipment, load and unload bulk material, bagged products, and material deliveries for customers and nursery departments
  • Unload all incoming trucks (stone, plant material, nursery supplies, etc.)
  • Monitor quantity and order bulk material (compost, mulch, etc) as needed
  • Communicate with commercial department and on-site landscaping company
  • Ensure bulk materials are tidy in bins, stone shopping area is organized, barn storage areas are organized, and shop yard is safe and clean
  • Equipment management and maintenance
    • Park machines in correct areas
    • Maintain equipment, including but not limited to: washing equipment/vehicles frequently, greasing machines, and checking essentials like tire pressure, air filters, oil, hydraulic fluid
    • Put tracks on and take tracks off of skidsteers, and keep attachments organized

Other Responsibilities:

  • Assist with watering plants
  • Assist in fixing nursery equipment like tracking carts, golf carts, wheel barrows, etc.
  • Assist commercial department in ringing up sales and assisting with stone sales
  • General help on commercial crew, such as loading orders, using auger, harley raking, assisting with inventory, organizing sold plant section of nursery


  • Mechanical skills
  • Experience operating equipment like skidsteer, bucket loaders, etc
  • Self-motivation and ability to work independently

Arcana Gardens & Greenhouses 2018 - Perennial Nursery Team Member

Perennial Nursery Team Member—Application Deadline March 15, 2018

Arcana Gardens and Greenhouses, a certified organic, highly diversified nursery and farm in Jericho, VT, is seeking a team member for our perennial nursery. Arcana’s retail nursery operation carries over 500 varieties of perennials, many medicinal and culinary herbs, and vegetable and annual flower seedlings in spring. We also grow cut flowers and some vegetables for sale at farmer’s markets.

We are seeking a focused, careful plant person to help operate the perennial nursery. This position will be part of a team of two people who maintain the perennial nursery’s day to day operations. Schedule is full time April-October and part time early October-end of March. One weekend day per week required May through October.

Major duties include:

  • Caring for and propagating potted perennials and keeping them in good health
  • Seeding and transplanting perennials
  • Organizing and moving plants around the nursery
  • Keeping the perennial sales area organized, welcoming, and clean
  • Helping maintain a system of organization in the overstock and potting area
  • Keeping our database of perennial plant information current and accurate
  • Assisting with creating our retail catalog for printing every 2 years
  • Contributing to farm-wide activities like watering, retail duties, and preparing for farmer’s markets each week

Required skills and experience:

  • Enthusiasm for interesting and unusual plants!
  • 3 years or more of perennial plant care and maintenance experience in a nursery, landscaping, or intensive home garden setting
  • High level of organization and focus
  • Experience and facility with database software, Excel files, and computers in general
  • Ability to work well independently, with minimal supervision
  • Ability to be a dedicated member of a team
  • Excellent, honest, kind communication skills

And, if the following apply to you, it’s a big plus:

  • Ability to stay focused and organized in an environment with many moving parts and which changes from day to day
  • Keeping scientific plant names straight is important to you
  • Experience managing FileMaker databases
  • Good to excellent writing skills
  • Basic to intermediate graphic design experience, using Adobe InDesign or Scribus

Commercial Customer Service Associate. This position is a full-time, 10-month (this position will have an 10-13 week layoff during the winter months), benefit eligible, grade 5, hourly position.   The Commercial CS Associate will provide prompt and knowledgeable service to our commercial and retail customers. Our ideal candidate will have intermediate plant/gardening knowledge with a focus on trees, shrubs and perennials; excellent customer service and communication skills; and basic design & landscaping skills.

Delivery & Installation Lead. This position is a full-time, year-round, benefit eligible, grade 6, hourly position.
The Design and Installation Lead (D & I Lead) is responsible for growing the revenue of the design and installation department while directing, and supporting the D & I Associates. The D & I Lead will focus on team productivity, efficiency, quality of work and an excellent experience for our customers.   He/She will provide effective coordination and communication between our landscape designers, D & I team and customers while providing day to day oversight of the technical operations of the department.

We are presently looking for a couple of qualified people to join one of our three crews. Our crews do spring maintenance and season-long installation which includes patios, stone walls, garden prep, big tree, shrub and perennial garden plantings, grading, driveways, pool coping, gazebos, decks, outdoor lighting, arbors and anything else our customers request and designers can design.

The work is physically demanding, so you must be in shape and have a good attitude. Everyone works Monday through Friday, 40 (or more) hours a week starting at 7 am. Pay is based on experience, but starts at $14.

The Grass Gauchos, LLC: Landscape Designer Wanted - 2018 Season

This position includes a broad range of responsibilities. As a landscape designer they are responsible for meeting with clients, performing site analysis and measurements and designing a landscape to fit their needs. They will provide all materials lists and quantities so that estimator, project managers, installation crew and any sub contractors can effectively perform their jobs.

Applicant must have minimum of 2 years experience in the industry and be familiar with CAD systems and 3D modeling software.

They will be responsible for selecting materials before job is installed, communicating with project manager throughout installation of project to ensure all needs are being met and following up with clients upon completion of projects to ensure complete client satisfaction.

During winter months they will continue to work on designs as needed, pursue additional education within the industry through seminars and or trade shows and work with snow removal crews as needed. It is expected they will attend a minimum of one seminar pertaining to landscape industry per year, the cost of seminar will be covered by company.

Compensation and benefits

This is a salaried position with pay dependent on experience. Employee must pass Vermont Certified Horticulturalist Exam and successfully complete ICPI Level I installer course.
